Beam pattern measurements

Benjamin Falk

Bat sonar signals are directional, with higher intensity on-axis than off-axis

Results in echoes returning more strongly in front of the animal than off to the sides

Bats can change the beam width of their signals by widening or closing the mouth opening or using different sound frequencies

We use a 34 channel microphone array to study the sonar beam pattern of different species of bats
